English/Language Arts

Our ELA program in the Second Grade utilizes the Journeys program by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Students learn all language skills with a weekly theme. The theme includes a story, phonics skill, comprehension skill, grammar, fluency, vocabulary strategy, and writing skills. The textbook has a workbook that coordinates with the above skills.

Math

Saxon Math 2 by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt program defines clear instruction and hands-on activities for all learners. This Math program helps build skills and confidence through daily review, learning new concepts, developing mathematical reasoning, and by applying their knowledge. Students are engaged in manipulatives, IXL, Khan Academy, Brain Pop, and hands-on learning tools to help develop, reinforce, and demonstrate what they have learned on a daily basis.

Science and Social Studies

The Science and Social Studies Weekly curriculum program teaches students the latest research in the Science world. Students discover Science and Social Studies through reading daily news articles, class discussions, Mystery Doug and by experimenting within the classroom. STEM-based experiments are coordinated in the classroom so that students can actually see, touch, and experience what they are learning.

Religion

Religion is taught by reading the Jesus Our Life series, Blessed – First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion by; Matthew Kelly/Dynamic Catholic. Through the combination of these books, the students learn about the upmost importance of Jesus Christ, our Lord. The students learn about virtues, how to pray, The Mass, The Eucharist, Confession and through scripture/bible stories. Sister Agnes is a positive addition to our school and is very active within the classroom of teaching religion.
