The Pre-K4 program revolves around both the Creative Curriculum and our Catholic school faith-based program. Our program incorporates different enrichment classes during the school week as well. These enrichment classes include Library/Technology, Spanish, Art, Music, and P.E.
Creative Curriculum
The Creative Curriculum is based on 6 different areas of study: Beginning the Year, Trees, Clothing, Balls, Buildings, Big Books, and Reduce, Reuse & Recycle. It also organizes our classroom in 11 interest areas, such as blocks, dramatic play, art, sand and water, and outdoors, thus helping children booster creativity, cognitive, and critical-thinking skills.
Religion
Pre-K4’s Catholic-based educational program consists of weekly religion lessons that focus on the upcoming Sunday Gospel readings. The students in our program also attend Catechesis of The Good Shepherd (CGS) once a week. CGS is a common religious experience involving children and adults, in which the religious values of childhood, primarily those values of contemplation and enjoyment of God, are predominant. This experience is shared in a place particularly prepared for the religious life of children called the Atrium. Father Andrew also visits our classroom once a week and discusses religious topics with our class.
Student Assessment
Our students’ progress is evaluated throughout the school year using both the Ages and Stages System and Teaching Strategies Assessment tool. Both Assessment tools are designed to document and evaluate children’s skills, knowledge, behaviors, and accomplishments across a wide variety of curriculum areas. Student progress is also documented on a developmental checklist, a portfolio collection, and a summary report.
